ZAGREB UP & DOWN TOUR
Tour plan:
Zagreb Up & Down tour starts on the King Tomislav Square in Zagreb, beside of the great statue of King Tomislav. After the meeting we continue our walk through the square esplanade to the Art Pavilion building. Afterwards we walk through J.J. Strossmayer Square and beside his statue, and we pass beside the Croatian Acedemy of Science and Art building. We cross the Road and visit the beautiful Park "Zrinjevac" on the Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square. Afterwards we continue our walk to Ban Josip Jelačić (main) Square till the great statue of Ban (Duke) Josip Jelačić. We continue our tour with the visit of the Square of Europe which is opened in honor of croatian entry of the European Union, and we take a look at a small model of the city on the way to the Square. Afterwards we walk up to the great Zagreb Cathedral which was first opened in the year 1217., and was destroyed and rebuilt several times in her history. The last restoration took place between the years 1880-1902., after the great earthquake in year 1880. which destroyed the towers and the roof. Afterwards we continue our walk beside the marketplace Dolac to the Tkalčićeva street. We pass through the short street Krvavi Most (Blody Bridge) and than we walk along the Radićeva street to the Stone Gates (one of the entry gates of Zagreb Old Town in the medieval time). After passing the Stone Gates we arrive on the St. Mark Square where both the croatian parliament and the seat of the croatian government are located. Afterwards we walk down to the Lotrščak Tower (from where every day a canon fires a shot exactly at 12 am) and the Zagreb Funicular (which is the shortest funicular in the world with only 66 meters of lenght). Beside the Funicular we will see a esplanade called "Strossmayerovo Šetalište".

We take a ride with the funicular and arrive on the Ilica street, which is the longest street in Zagreb and also the most popular shopping street. We continue our walk to the Square of Flowers, where in the past a flower market was located and today still a few stores sell flowers, and a lot of bars and restaurants offer a place to rest, drink and eat. We continue further to the Republic of Croatia Square where we will see one of the most beautiful buildings in croatia- the Croatian National Theater. Across the street we we also see the new building of the Croatian Music Academy and the Zagreb University building. After that we continue our walk across Mažuranić Square and beside the Academy of Dramatic Arts building. Then we continue our walk beside the Croatian National Archives building on the Marko Marulić Square and visit the statue of Marko Marulić. After that we walk further and on the way we enter* the Botanic Garden which was grounded in the year 1889. and contains a large number of plant species. Afterwards we continue our walk beside the hotel Esplanade- one of the most luxurios hotels in Croatia which was first built in the year 1925. beside the main railway station in Zagreb. We go further beside the fountain on Ante Starčević Square and we reach our starting point on King Tomislav Square.
*Botanic Garden is opened from 1.4. till 1.11.
